The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom [Infographic]

When I went to primary school, we only had a handful of computers. I still remember fond sessions of playing Oregon Trail (and dying, frequently), but now computer technology is deeply ingrained in all levels of education!

Of course, as this rocking infographic by Masterofartsinteaching.net shows, technology has always been a part of education! Just check out the timeline!

Up until about 1920 most people were taught in simple one room school houses. By 1923, classrooms were starting to integrate radios into their classrooms.

In the 1930’s projectors and even films were making their way into educational facilities! In fact, in 1939 the first television made its way into a classroom in LA! I’m willing to bet that students were extremely excited!

In 1960’s white boards were invented to replace chalkboards, though interestingly there is no mention of when chalkboards were created. Do you know when they were? If so, comment below!

And in 1967 Texas Instruments introduced the hand held calculator. That invention was a real life saver for me as math was never my strongest subject.

In 1984 Apple upped the ante with the introduction of the Macintosh computer, and by 1988 laptops were already making their way into the classroom.

Now, in 2013 90 percent of students have access to mobile technology, such as iPads! That’s a huge growth in technology from only a few decades ago. I wonder what future developments will impact education systems?
