Get Your Wear Right: An Amazing Organic Clothing [Infographic]

By

I love eating organic foods and am a huge fan of fair trade products. Needless to say, I like the idea of organic clothing just as much, and loved what I learned from this kick ass infographic! Right now there’s a growing movement towards organic farming, and it’s taking root across the world.

So what’s organic farming all about? As the infographic explains, organic farming:

emphasizes on farming and processing that work with nature, and help minimize air, soil and water pollution.

In order for a product to be certified as organic, it must meet national standards for the United States Department of Agriculture. This ensures that you actually get what you pay for.

So, what types of materials are used in organic clothing? The most common materials include wool, cotton, silk, hemp, and bamboo. That’s right! Even bamboo can now be used to make clothing.

Shifting away from “industrial” cotton is a huge concern for environmentalists. Why? Because industrial cotton is the world’s “dirtiest” crop, consuming a quarter of the world’s insecticides and 10% of pesticides. And just think, you wrap your skin in that cotton probably every day!

Organic farming is now a huge and fast growing industry. In the USA alone, it’s already worth over 500 million dollars, and growing at over 10 percent, annually. I was surprised to learn that organic farming can actually cost less than industrial farming because it relies primarily on local resources and there’s no need for expensive industrial pesticides!
