College Students: A Form of Homo Digitalus? [Infographic]

By

74% of students said it would be impossible to study if technology was prohibited.

This line, taken from this interesting infographic created by coursesmart.com, really caught my attention. Why? Because it points out how reliant we all are on technology. Just think, 30 years ago most of the technology we now take for granted didn’t even exist!

And the students are right, at least to an extent. Computers cut down on study time by two hours each day. If you’re awake for 16 hours a day, that amounts to 1/8th of your time! I would have never thought about that until looking through this infographic, but the authors seem to be right!

And now the Internet can help people save cash! Coursesmart.com, for example, helps students save an average of 60 percent off textbooks. Meanwhile, websites like Yelp are helping students and everyone else save money on food. The internet basically allows you to find the lowest prices and best deals for anything you want to buy! And given that most college students are always strapped for cash, a few minutes of surfing the web can make a huge difference.

Now, the modern dorm room is stuffed with digital gadgets. Laptops, smartphones, tablets, and they can all be linked up to the web. And other technologies, such as websites, ebook readers, and others are replacing traditional technologies, like take out menus and textbooks.

So if you are looking to save some time and money, make sure you plug into the web and search for all of the available options. Whether you are looking for a cheap dinner or a used textbook, you’re sure to find it!
