Gender Free Insurance [Infographic]

Wondering what this infographic is about?

“The European Court of Justice has ruled that UK insurers can no longer take gender into consideration when quoting on a range of insurance products.”

And that includes British car insurance, private health insurance, life insurance, pensions, and private medical insurance.

Interestingly, in regards to car insurance, this means that men under the age of 30 could see their rates fall by about 10 percent, while women under the age of 25, could see their rates rise by as much as 25 percent!

So basically, insurance companies see women drivers as much less risky! Kind of funny given that women often get a bad reputation for poor driving skills. Just goes to show you that sometimes long held perceptions often don’t hold up with reality!

One way you can lower your car insurance rates if you are in the high risk 17 to 25 group is to sign up for a “Black Box.” Basically, this box is installed in your car and monitors your driving performance. You will receive feedback, but will have to adhere to no curfews. And if you drive well, your premiums will be reduced!

So if you live in the United Kingdom, you should check out ingenie.com for more information. I consider myself a good driver, so I’d have no problem with placing a black box in my car to monitor my performance.
