Writing a book is no easy task. Thing of it this way, this article is only about 250 words long, but a bestselling novel can easily top 100,000 words. That’s a whole lot of typing! If you are looking to get published make sure you read this helpful infographic to learn some tricks of the trade!

Guys can be chauvinists, I’m sorry to say, and that is evident in the fact that guys are 10 times more interested in books with male protagonists than female. Women get the last laugh, however, as books with female protagonists are 40% more likely to hit the bestseller’s list. Why? It might have something to do with the fact that females are 50 percent more likely to finish a book. Who would have known that gender would be such a huge factor?

Wish I could pin the blame on my fellow guys, but now that I think of it I have a half-finished book sitting on my night stand! But I guess we all have a different lifestyle.

Literature accounts for some 20 percent of books sold while Sci-fi comes in at a close second with 19 percent. I won’t lie, I prefer sci-fi myself, so I am glad to see others do to.

About a third of people will toss your book aside by the time they reach the 50th page, a bit disheartening for us aspiring authors! Also, the longer the book the less likely a reader will finish it! At 300 pages some 85 percent will complete your great novel. At 700 pages? Good luck getting more than 35 percent of people to finish it.

But you know what? I am cool with that, now I have a good reason to keep my future novels short and sweet! Check out all the great data and charts in this infographic!
