Cancer is a scary thing, and skin cancer is the most prevalent of all types! Luckily there are things you can do to protect your skin and health. In fact, at 3.5 million cases per year in the United States alone, skin cancer is by far the most prevalent form of cancer. In the USA, there are only about 239,000 cases of prostate cancer, 235,000 cases of Breast cancer, and 228,000 causes of lung cancer in the USA per year. So with summer quickly approaching, this infographic can offer you lots of great tips!
Skin cancer can be caused by UV lights, which penetrate deep beneath the skin and can damage DNA, among other things. UV light can also cause sunburns, eye problems, and other serious conditions. Too much exposure to the sun can also cause premature aging, loose skin, and other conditions.
So what’s the best way to protect your skin? Get some strong sun screen, at least SPF 30, and make sure it’s water resistant if you plan on getting in the water. Make sure you apply it generously, and don’t forget your ears, nose, and other easy-to-miss areas!
Sun screen eventually wears off, especially if you go swimming, so make sure you reapply it frequently! Also, make sure you check the expiration date! Many people don’t realize that sunscreen really does expire!
And if you plan to spend a long time in the sun, make sure you hang out in the shade from time to time! Also, throw on a layer of clothes or wear some sun glasses if the sun is starting to bother you!
