I love coffee and usually I brew my own. Needless to say, I found this an interesting infographic! And even though I have been brewing coffee for years, I still found that I had a lot to learn!
Turns out that brewing coffee is practically an art. In fact, there’s even a brew formula, which refers to the amount of coffee used per Ml of water. In general, you should use 65 to 70 grams of coffee for every 1000 to 1100 ml of water.
The amount of coffee solubles found in your coffee can be referred to as the “strength of coffee”. If your coffee is too weak, increase the dose and make sure it is brewing for more than five minutes. Or if your coffee is too strong, reduce the dose and make sure it is brewing for about 8 minutes.
What if that doesn’t help? If your coffee is still too weak, try using a finer grind. If it is too strong, use a more course grind.
Extraction refers to the flavors found in coffee. Like strength, it depends a lot on how fine or course the grind is, and how long the coffee is brewing for. With extraction, however, you should change the type of grind first, before increasing or decreasing the dose.
