Where Techies Call It Home [Infographic]

By

Technology has changed the world and will shape the future. Of course, maybe I am a bit impartial as I am a bit of a techie. But hey, we all love our digital gadgets, don’t we? I mean you’re reading this from a gadget of some form, right?

Anyways, this “high-tech” infographic shows where the major hubs of the tech industry in the United States are located. Some of the locations are obvious. I mean Silicon Valley is called Silicon Valley for a reason, and unsurprisingly, it’s the biggest and brightest spot on the map!

What did surprise me was that the New York centers “Silicon Alley” took number two. I figured that with Microsoft being located near Seattle, that the “Silicon Forest” would come in at second place, but it looks like they are fighting for fifth or sixth.

In fact, Florida handily beats out the Pacific-Northwest! I hate to say it, but I figured that the Panhandle is home to more retirees without the slightest clue of how to turn on a computer, than technology experts building tomorrow’s technologies.

The Midwest, anchored in Chicago, is also a major tech center. Another surprising fact is that the old saying “Every thing’s bigger in Texas” doesn’t hold true with technology. Despite all the hoopla in tech news, Texas’s tech centers are still quite small!

If you live in the U.S. you should see where your city falls! And if you’re outside of the U.S. why not try to guess how you’d draw a similar map. And if you’re American and looking to start a technology career, you might have to contemplate a move to one of dots above.

Thanks BRIGHTlabs for creating this great infographic filled with so many facts!
