Biking is becoming all the rage in many urban areas around the world, and for good reason. As this infographic points out, there are numerous health benefits to biking. For example, biking can help you have better blood pressure and insulin levels. Many Americans also enjoy higher levels of self-confidence and stress tolerance!
biking just 3 hours a week can reduce your risk of heart disease by 50 percent! Not only that, but the average person loses 13 pounds in their first year of commuting via bike. Go take a look in the mirror and just imagine how great you’d look if you were 13 pounds lighter!
One great thing about biking is that the more you weigh, the more calories you burn. So if you happen to be a bit overweight, biking will help you slim down. For example, I weigh about 150 pounds, so I’d burn “only” 215 calories in a 30 minute bike ride (this is actually quite a bit!). I have a few friends who weigh about 250 pounds, and if they went on the same 30 minute bike ride as me, they’d burn some 360 calories!
And beyond health, there are a ton of great economic benefits. Gas prices are sky high, and on average, commuting by car costs 8,000 dollars a year. A bike, on the other hand, runs up only 308 dollars in costs per year. And with half of all Americans living within five miles of where they work, biking is a realistic possibility for many of us!
Anyways, I’ll leave the rest of the details to this fit and fun infographic. Thanks Stephanie Averkamp and fitnessforweightloss.org for putting this together!
