In many ways, college was the best time of my life. I can’t speak for the whole world, but for us Americans it’s truly a great time to meet friends and really expand your intellectual horizons. And this enlightening infographic will expand your horizons in regards to what’s going on in college these days!

The sad fact, however, is that people from wealthier families are far more likely to earn a degree (1 in 2) than people from poorer families (1 in 7). And 50 percent of students never graduate! That blows my mind! I only had one friend drop out of college and that was because he found a different career that he wanted to pursue!

Of course, a school like Harvard sees 97 percent of its students graduate, and other selective schools average almost 90 percent. Less selective schools, on the other hand, see only about 1 in three students earn their degree. Those statistics are awful.

And I want you take a wild guess on which country has the highest percentage of college graduates.

Did you guess?

Did you guess Russia? I sure didn’t, but yes the Russian Federation comes in at numero uno with 54% of students holding a degree. The U.S. comes in at number 6 with just over 40% but is easily handled by Canada, which has over 48%!

Now, the recent recession in the United States is causing a lot of strain on college students. Tuition prices are increasing while jobs are evaporating, in fact there are some 2 million unemployed students! As a result, default rates are rising. In fact, nearly 1/3 of community college students will default on loans within 15 years!

Anyways, there are a ton of other facts that I’ve been rambling for so long that I am starting to remind myself of some of my old professors! So educate yourself with this great infographic by onlineschools.org
