Africa is rightly regarded by many as the poorest continent in the world (excluding Antarctica, of course! Those penguins just don’t seem interested in the global economy). But in some ways Africa is among the richest. Point in fact, there might not be more natural resources per person than in Africa. And this extremely informative infographic maps out all the statistics!
Nigeria, for example exports some 100 billion dollars worth of oil per year. And the Democratic Republic of Congo supplies 53% of the world’s Cobalt and 21% of its industrial diamonds. Unfortunately in Congo, this wealth has resulted in more war than prosperity.
And if you’re a fan of Platinum jewelery, you should head to South Africa, the nation accounts for some 77% of the world’s production! That’s a pretty good resource to have, given that it’s more valuable than Gold. South Africa also produces 46% of the world’s Chromite and 21% of the world’ Manganese.
Meanwhile, various new projects could add huge amounts to the GDP’s of various countries across the region. Projects in Liberia, for example, could add revenues in excess of 147.8% of the GDP! And a new Iron ore project in Guinea could add $1.6 billion.
It’s clear to see that the Earth, and especially Africa, is rich in resources!
