What Social Media and Mobile Phones Mean for Branding [Infographic]

Did you know:

“2 in 3 web users have at least one social media account for personal use.”

Actually, that number doesn’t surprise me. Everyone uses social media these days. In fact, 56 percent of female users and 49.5 percent of male users have a Facebook account. Meanwhile, 24.5 percent of male users have a Google+ account, compared to 26.1 percent of female users.

Perhaps more importantly, 58.6 percent of users check their social media accounts at least once per day. Not only that, but 30.1 percent of females check their accounts several times per day, while 26.4 percent of males do the same.

And mobile phones are becoming hugely important. Yes, desktops are still the most popular access methods for both males and females, but mobile phones come in at second place. Tablets come in a distant third. Overall, 1/3 of respondents say that mobile phones are now their primary device for accessing social media.

What might be more important, however, is the fact that among 18 to 34 year olds, mobile phones are now becoming the device of choice. 46.2 percent of males use their phone as their primary device, compared to only 24.9 percent for PCs. Females are far more evenly split, with 40.9 percent of them using their mobile phones as primary devices, compared to 39.1 percent for PCs.

So why is this so important for Brand imaging? Digital advertising is actually the most effective form of brand advertising, though TV is nipping at its heels. Other forms of advertising, such as print and radio, are far less effective. In fact, 67.6 percent of social media influencers say that online banner ads now drive social engagement.
