Living Healthy At Work [Infographic]

1 in 4 of us will suffer from work-related stress over the course of our lifetime, but the office needn’t be a place of suffering.

Honestly, those numbers are a lot lower than I thought they would be. In most of the places I have worked, I would guess that stress numbers easily topped 50 percent.

So this turned out to be quite the eye opening infographic for me!

Consider the United Kingdom, according to the World Bank it’s home to only about 62.74 million people. Yet each year some 13.7 million workdays are lost to injuries. Not only that, but some 6 million people suffer from migraines, and stress is the biggest cause of these headaches.

And the total costs of mental health related issues tops a whopping 26 billion pounds per year. That’s a huge loss for the economy!

There are some things you can do to relieve stress on your body and mind in the office. For example, sitting at a 135 degree angle helps relieve pressure on the spine. And if you sit all day, make sure you get up out of your chair every 30 minutes or so for a good long stretch. You can also put up plants around the office, and when possible rely on natural lighting. Also, take your eyes off all that technology from time-to-time.

And if you are an employer or manager at your company, you can provide gym memberships (or at least discounts), promote healthy eating, provide counseling services, and numerous other things.
