People who most value community health resources have the least access to them

That’s a somber statement, to say the least, but in the world we live in today, a lot of people lack access to health care resources. Medicine, nutrition, health care, and numerous other resources are often out of reach of those in need. Sadly, America faces pressing problems in terms of access to community resources.
97% of Americans believe that access to doctors and dentists is essential, while 98% of people believe access to healthy food choices is essential. Honestly, I am a bit surprised that those numbers aren’t in the 99 percent range! I certainly feel that both are essential!
Meanwhile, 88 percent of people believe that access to safe and affordable housing and nearby green space is also essential. While I’d say healthy food and doctors are more important, having a nice park nearby certainly adds to one’s qualify of life!
Unsurprisingly, those in high income households (125K per year or more) report that they have access to many of these resources. 75 percent feel they have access to healthy food choices, while 89 percent feel they can access doctors and dentists.
For low income households (those earning less that 50K per year), the numbers aren’t so kind. Only 66 percent feel they can access dentists and doctors, while only 62 percent report having access to healthy foods! In many ways, those numbers aren’t as bad as I thought they’d be, but they are certainly nothing to brag about!
Health care and access to basic resources will certainly have an impact on one’s lifestyle, and other things such as education! There’s a lot more information packed into this infographic by GlaxoSmithKline, so check it out!
